The topic of cell death is reflected in all areas of Medicine, from heart attack to cancer. Jan Balvan from the Department of Pathophysiology of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University focuses on what different types of cell death look like and how to differentiate between them using the holographic microscopy method in his research. He also recently published a book on cell death in collaboration with Dr. Martina Raudenská. “We wanted to make the new knowledge available for students of Medicine. It bothered me, that there is a still lot of dogma about medical students not knowing which type of cell death stimulates inflammation or that pyroptosis is a type of cell death, that occurs after infection of the cell by pathogen,” he says in the interview. This year, he received support for his current cell death research project within the TA CR GAMA 2 programme.

Research team from the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University evaluates booster hesitancy with a National Cross-sectional Study among 3,454 Czech healthcare workers, marking one of the earliest studies of its kind.

The World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14^th November and its point is to highlight the prevention of Diabetes and the key role of healthy lifestyle.

At the annual conference of Grant Agency of Masaryk University, the MUNI Scientist Awards for results and significant achievements in the field of research were presented for the second time.

A group of experts from the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University; University of Ostrava and Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín begun the preparation of an online platform for teaching of hyperbaric medicine. Students of Medicine and Healthcare study programmes will be able to use the platform in a testing phase from September next year. The launch of the platform is expected in the year 2023.
