The Brno Ph.D. Talent competition awards 25 young talented scientists every year. These talented scientists receive 300,000 CZK evenly distributed over a period of three years of study. Funding for the project, which is part of the Regional Innovation Strategy, is provided for the winners by the statutory city of Brno. The project is implemented by the South Moravian Centre for International Mobility (JCMM) as it has been for more than 10 years.

Recently, this call has been announced again. Doctoral students can apply for the award if they study in the full-time form in the first or second semester of their studies, i.e. new students or students already studying from the spring semester of 2021. The maximum age of the applicant is 32 years old. The whole competition is held in English, so it is suitable for both Czech and foreign students.

It is necessary to enter the competition through the application, which has the following structure:

  • Applicant's CV (education and qualifications for the project, practical experience, professional internships, solved projects)
  • The scientific project (goals and original contribution, theoretical framework, methods, techniques, references, schedule and milestones, motivation for project solution)
  • Project background (thesis supervisor and professional consultants, workplaces and cooperating institutions, other relevant information)

The entire application is written in English, submitted in pdf format and is a maximum of 12 A4 pages long. It is possible to submit it by 30th September 2021. In the next round, the applicant presents their project to an expert committee of evaluators from prestigious scientific workplaces. The presentation takes place in English and has a set time of 15 minutes. The applicant must present to the committee: what has already been researched in the given scientific field, what they intend to do and through what specific experiments. They must justify and defend why their project is the best and why it deserves an award and financial support.

Information on the announcement of the competition is available on the JCMM website and we also recommend doctoral students to follow the discussion group Doctoral Studies at FM MU on the Yammer platform.
