13 Aug Stories of ordinary medicine: František Bárta For 51 years, Dr. František Bárta cared for patients of the now defunct pulmonary sanatorium - later a hospital for the long-term ill - on Bucht Hill near Nové Město na Moravě, of which he was the director for two decades.
7 Aug The International Clinical Research Centre (ICRC) will be led by biologist Michal Masařík In the selection process for the head of the International Clinical Research Center (ICRC), a joint workplace of St. Anne’s University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, Prof. RNDr. Michal Masařík, Ph.D., emerged victorious. He assumed the position at the beginning of August.
5 Aug MetaChange: Innovative Research on the Effect of Post-Decisional Information on Metacognition and Decision Making Presented at ASSC27 The MetaChange project explores the effect of post-decisional information on the cognitive and metacognitive components of decision making using online experiments, electrophysiological recordings, and computational modeling. The initial results, presented at the ASSC27 congress in Tokyo, revealed a significant impact of this information on participants' confidence and changes of mind.

31 Jul Guests of the June Breakfast with a Scientist were Mr. and Mrs. Bešše On June 25th, the last pre-summer Breakfast with a Scientist took place. We were pleased to invite a lovely married couple of researchers, Lenka and Andrej Bešše, who shared their fascinating story of travelling to Switzerland and back to the Czech Republic and offered valuable insights from their careers in medical research.
30 Jul Danish medics have been coming to Brno for the summer dissection course since 1969! This year it has been 55 years since Danish medical students have been coming to Brno for two-week courses in topographical anatomical dissection. In Denmark, anatomical autopsies were not performed because of unresolved legal issues related to the acquisition of human bodies for such purposes. For more than 30 years these problems have been a thing of the past, but the interest and tradition of autopsy courses at the MU Faculty of Medicine still continues.
16 Jul Michal Eid: "Precision therapy is suitable for a third of patients in oncology and the number is increasing." Precision therapy is appropriate for one-third of patients in oncology and the number is increasing, data show. This is one of the arguments why the Centre for Precision Medicine started operating at the University Hospital Brno in May. Dr. Michal Eid from the Internal Hematology and Oncology Clinic of the University Hospital Brno and the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, as the chairman of its Molecular Oncology Indication Committee, is fundamentally involved in the indication of precision treatment for oncology patients.
11 Jul Lumír Krejčí elected member of EMBO The European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) announced in July its newly elected members, including Masaryk University’s Lumír Krejčí from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science.
