Jan Křivánek and his research group have long been collaborating with Associate Professor Anamaria Balic from the University of Zurich on uncovering the natural behaviour of stem cells. During May, doc. Balic visited the MU Faculty of Medicine in May so that these research teams could discuss their joint scientific projects.

Professor Jiří Vaněk is a pioneer in the field of Czech transplantology and implantology. He did not want to study dentistry in his youth and always tried to push for dentists to have a broader medical education.

At the Research Breakfast on Monday, 20 May, Tomáš Kašpárek welcomed a special guest, the Rector of Masaryk University, Professor Martin Bareš. This year, since January, we have been commemorating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the MU Faculty of Medicine and in cooperation with Brno University Hospitals, we have implemented a campaign to promote blood donation. From February to the end of May, 275 blood donors came to donate blood, almost a third of whom donated for the first time.

Last week, Lenka Zdražilová Dubská and Milan Sova received the highest teaching rank from the hands of the President of the Czech Republic and the Rector of Masaryk University handed over the appointment decrees to five new associate professors from the Faculty of Medicine of MU.

The IFMSA, specifically the Sexual and Reproductive Health Section (SCORA), organized a menstrual hygiene collection on Menstrual Hygiene Day, which took place at all 8 medical faculties in the country. At Masaryk University it was held at several faculties and in two cafes in Brno. The aim of this initiative was to raise awareness about menstrual poverty and to help women and girls who do not have access to basic hygiene products.

Garden therapy is not just simple gardening, as many might think. "It is a targeted healing method using being in nature, gardening and working with plants and natural resources to promote physical and mental health," says Ing. Zuzana Galle, DiS from the Centre of Medicinal Plants at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, co-founder of the Association of Garden Therapy, who has been working with this method for a long time with clients on the autism spectrum. "I also have personal experience in recovering from burnout," she adds. The main topic of the conference of the 7th National Clinical Trials Day, organised by the Large Research Infrastructure CZECRIN on 30 May in Prague, was the safety and efficacy of new drugs.

The Academic Senate of the MED MUNI met for the first time in its new composition on 4 June 2024 at the constituent meeting, where the election of the AS Chair and Vice-Chairs, AS Committee Chairs and members was held and the dates of the meetings were set. Assoc. prof. RNDr. Josef Tomandl, Ph.D. was re-elected as the Chair for the new period.

Microbiologist Matěj Bezdíček learned the latest sequencing technologies during his internship in Vienna and his experience and newly acquired instrumentation are already benefiting his home clinic, the Internal Hematology and Oncology Clinic. They were also appreciated by the House of International Cooperation.
