At the FM MU Academic Senate meeting on Tuesday 20 June, two new vice-deans and members of the Disciplinary Committee were appointed, the name of one of the departments was changed, and the annual report for 2022 was approved.

Alzheimer's disease. A devastating disease that disrupts part of the brain and causes a decline in so-called cognitive functions - thinking and memory. It is the most common cause of dementia, which gradually leads to the patient's dependence on the daily help of another person. But can we prevent or even cure Alzheimer's dementia? Yes, we can.

The appointment decrees for the new professors were personally handed over by President Petr Pavel today in the Grand Hall of the Karolina in Prague. He appointed a total of 93 professors, including two women professors and six professors on the basis of a proposal by the MU Scientific Board.

Karolína Jeřábková is a talented sock maker who recently shone at the World Secondary School Work competition in Dallas, USA. Her stunning performances, creativity and immense talent have catapulted her into the ranks of the world's best contestants! During her high school studies, she worked on her SSW at the Department of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine, graduated this year and after the holidays she is entering the first year of General Medicine at our faculty. This can also be the way to her dream.

The Aesculap Academy Award for the development of simulation medicine in the Czech Republic and the establishment of the SIMU simulation centre at the Faculty of Medicine was awarded to Prof. Petr Štourač, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, FESAIC. Prof. Štourač serves as Vice Dean for Development and Studies in Clinical Fields of General Medicine at FM MU, Head of the Institute of Simulation Medicine at FM MU and Head of the Department of Paediatric Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation at FM MU and UH Brno.

Another year of the exhibition of medicinal plants has started, this year with a really interesting theme. In the hectare garden there are nine hundred species, varieties and varieties of medicinal or otherwise useful plants. The exhibition is open to the general public until 9th July, including weekends.

This year's 6th National Clinical Trials Day commemorates the anniversary of the first clinical trial conducted by Dr. James Lind in May 1747. The aim of the conference was to take an in-depth look at the clinical trial process in the Czech Republic and respond to the current need to improve the Czech Republic's readiness and competitiveness in the field of clinical trials on a global scale.

At the end of May, Nava Levit-Binnun Ph.D., director of the Sagol Center for Brain and Mind research center at Reichman University in Israel, visited the faculty. Thanks to the exceptional contact of the Academic Center Mindfulness Research and Practice Network of Masaryk University in collaboration with a PhD student of the Faculty of Social Studies, Mgr. Barbara Kučerová, who spent an Erasmus stay in Israel under the supervision of Associate Professor Levit-Binnun. The academic centre established relations with Reichman University in 2022, when a member of Associate Professor Levit-Binnun's research team, neuroscientist Dr. Yulia Golland, visited MUNI for the first time. The Academic Center sees further possible cooperation with Reichman University as, for example, the realization of further seminars and workshops for students, psychologists, doctors and mindfulness trainers, as well as internships through the Erasmus+ program.

The beginning of the year 2023 at the faculty was, among other things, in the spirit of continuous evaluation of the faculty's HR strategy and its implementation with regard to the activities that were written into the HR Award Action Plan in 2021 and based on which the European Commission awarded FM MU the HR Excellence in Research Award. In April 2023, a self-assessment report and the revised Action Plan were sent to the European Commission. The faculty received feedback on these documents in May.

Students of the healthcare study programmes of Midwifery and Paramedic at the Faculty of Medicine brought exciting and interactive teaching to a primary school in Brno Řečkovice. They prepared educational projects for second graders focused on the basics of first aid and the secrets of new life.
