The first art exhibition on the premises of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University was organised thanks to the faculty's interest in extracurricular activities of our students and graduates, who often share artworks on their social media. Creating artworks helps them strengthen their relationship with Medicine in general, with their studies at our faculty and it helps them relax. Introductory words to the opening were given by the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, Mgr. Jana Fialová, Ph.D. She mentioned that after the previous events connected to the pandemic, we have an exceptional opportunity to meet at a cultural event, which will also renew the idea of a fundraiser as a thank you to the body donors for the Department of Anatomy FM MU. Remembering last year’s virtual concert within the Reverence for body donors, she expressed pride for the students for managing their difficult studies as well as for the graduates, and applicants for studies at our faculty for their many talents. We now present you one of these talents through this da MEDici exhibition.

At the exhibition, the visitors can take a look at the 48 works from both our students and graduates. The topic connecting the artworks is the experience associated with studying at our faculty. A total of 37 authors used various creative techniques and media, from pencil and pen drawing, watercolours, and tempera paintings to digital works. The artworks that you can admire were created continuously from the beginning of this spring until the end of the summer holidays. The exhibition can serve for the delight of passers-by in difficult times, so that we could divert attention away from everyday stress, worries and studying, at least a little.

During Advent, after the end of the exhibition, all artworks will be auctioned, so you can bid for some of the art from this exhibition to have at home, in your office or you can give it as a Christmas present with a unique idea. The topic of Anatomy, studying it, and overcoming it is depicted in many of the artworks, and therefore the proceeds from the auction will go towards the construction of the Memorial for Body Donors as a thank you and expression of respect to those, who decided to donate their bodies and contribute to the quality education of Anatomy at our faculty.

Many of the authors of the artworks are students of the first years of study programmes at FM MU, and therefore the exhibition also included a draw of three winners of the MUNICHALLENGE competition announced online at Open Day 2021. Those, who carefully watched all prepared videos sent us all 23 passwords hidden in each video and became our students, had a chance to win faculty merchandise. We would like to congratulate Nikola Zemanová, who just started studying Dentistry and two students of General Medicine Kristýna Fojtová and Markéta Pernicová.

The programme of the vernissage also included cultural diversification, namely the musical performance of Anna Červenková, who played the song Shallow from the movie “A Star Is Born” on cello.

Now you too can participate in compiling of the first faculty calendar, contents of which will be decided by the voting for the 13 most successful works. You can vote on the website https://www.med.muni.cz/en/about-faculty/art-competition-damedici/list-of-artworks or scan the QR code located on all the exhibition panels. You can select three works, from which you will compile the order of the first to third place. You can physically stop by your favourite pieces whenever you want or feel the need to have a piece of art nearby.
