The first health prevention day for employees and students of FM MU offered consultations from vision to nutrition.
Measure your BMI and consult your dietary habits, get advice on skin care before the summer tanning season starts, and check your visual acuity at the Department of Optometry and Orthoptics. These are just some of the activities that employees and students of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University could undergo as part of the MEDay event - a health-focused day, the programme of which took place on the first Monday in April on the premises of the campus.
"The Faculty of Medicine is a proud recipient of the HR Award, so we wanted to make available a range of preventive health examinations and consultations as part of employee care, which are important, but perhaps not everyone would be willing to take the time to visit a specialist," says Marie Krulová, Head of the Communication and External Relations Office. "I am glad that we have many willing and skilful colleagues and students at the faculty who helped us implement our idea."
In addition to the Department of Optometry and Orthoptics, students of Dietitian programme, General Nursing and those from the IFMSA association, the management of the Medicinal Herbs Centre, an expert from the Dermatovenerology Department of the University Hospital Brno, the patient organisation Nebýt na to sama, and a representative of NZIP portal were also actively involved in MEDay.
"I've been wearing glasses since I was a kid, but I haven't been to the eye clinic for a while, so it's nice that I could consult today about possible further correction like this between classes. Also, I didn't even know that the faculty had such a herb garden," said one of the foreign students while tasting teas grown in the Medicinal Herbs Centre.
Considering the participation and the positive feedback from both the organizers and the participants, it is clear that MEDay was held for the first time, but definitely not the last!
