Sustainability at MU
At Masaryk University, following the example of international good practice, the issue of sustainable operation is approached responsibly and with respect.
Mu is a institution with a hundred-year history, consisting of ten faculties, educating over 30,000 students through 300 study programmes, employing the second largest number of workers in the region. Especially as a university shaping the young generation, future leaders, consumers, parents.
Sustainable Development Goals UN
Masaryk University perceives its responsibility to use its potential to contribute to the implementation of the UNITED NATIONS Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Sustainably focused research, education, and awareness-raising within academia and society as a whole are critical factors in integrating relevant principles into all societal processes on the road to a sustainable future.
Energy Savings
In 2022, the #MUNIsaves campaign was launched to help save electricity, water and gas. In line with its strategy, MU has guided staff and students to behave responsibly through the Ten Energy Savings below. Comparative data after the heating season shows that staff and students have taken an exemplary approach to the situation. Savings and cost reductions were seen in four main areas - drinking water, heat, gas and electricity.
MU Carbon Footprint
In accordance with its Strategic Plan 2021-2028, Masaryk University was one of the first universities in the Czech Republic to start monitoring its carbon footprint with the aim of rational reduction.
