Safe workspace
Safety at the workplace
The basic principles of occupational safety and health at work (OSH) at MU are regulated by Rector's Directive No. 10/2009.
Upon commencement of employment, each new employee is invited by e-mail to undergo mandatory e-learning training in occupational health and safety and fire protection. Subsequent training of employees is organised at set times according to risks and health hazards, applicable legislation and as instructed by the employee's management.
Cyber Security
A secure cyber environment is essential for MU as a modern educational institution. Cybersecurity at MUNI is handled by the CSIRT-MU Cybersecurity Team.
Emergency event
What should I do in the event of an emergency?
Injury
1. Provide first aid
For the purpose of first aid in Masaryk University buildings, first aid kits are available, usually located near reception desks, porter's lodges and at workplaces with increased risk. In the city of Brno, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are also available at selected locations. In the event of an acute life-threatening emergency, call the Emergency Medical Services emergency line, number 155, or 112 – the unified European emergency number.
It is necessary to speak calmly, matter-of-factly and to say in particular:
- - exactly what has happened
- - how many people are affected
- - what is the condition of the injured person (is he or she conscious, breathing...?)
- - the name and at least the approximate age of the victim
- - where the victim is located (city or town, street, house number, floor, ...)
- - who is calling
Then you must inform the reception or concierge about the call of the integrated rescue system.
2. Secure the accident site
If there is no danger to persons, the accident site must be maintained in the condition in which the accident occurred.
3. Report the accident
An accident to a Masaryk University student – an accident that has occurred to an MU student during or in direct connection with teaching or practice in a study programme conducted by MU - must be reported immediately to an academic staff member carrying out teaching activities or to another Masaryk University staff member present.
4. Cooperate in clarifying the causes and circumstances of the accident
To further resolve accidents, it is possible to contact directly the faculties' OSH officer Bc. Edita Uherková, tel. 549 49 6486.
Fire
The basic principles of fire protection are regulated at MU by Rector's Directive No. 4/2005.
In the event of a fire, it is necessary to follow the fire alarm guidelines and evacuation plan or the general procedure:
- - take the necessary measures to rescue the persons at risk,
- - if possible, extinguish the fire or take the necessary measures to prevent its spread,
- - otherwise, declare a fire alarm (by activating the fire detector or shouting "HOŘÍ! – HOŘÍ!" or "FIRE! – FIRE!")
- - immediately report the detected fire or arrange for it to be reported to the building's fire alarm station, if one is established, or to the fire brigade's emergency line, number 150 or 112.
It is necessary to speak calmly, matter-of-factly and to say in particular:
- - where the fire is (town or village, street, house number, floor, ...)
- - what is burning
- - who is calling
- - where the call is coming from
In the case of a direct call to the emergency number 150 or 112, it is necessary to subsequently inform the fire alarm operator or the reception or concierge of the call to the integrated rescue system. Portable fire extinguishers – mainly powder, carbon dioxide and water extinguishers – and fire hoses (wall hydrants) are available for small, incipient fires.
In the event of a fire alarm being declared, it is necessary to immediately suspend existing activities and leave the fire-threatened area by the nearest escape route.
General public alert
At present, the warning of the population (e.g. in the event of an emergency) is unified into one type of signal "General Alert". This signal is announced by a fluctuating siren tone for 140 seconds. It may be sounded three times in succession at intervals of approximately three minutes. If the warning signal is heard, it is necessary to immediately seek shelter in the nearest building, close and seal the doors and windows in the room and turn on the radio and television.
The sirens are normally tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 12 noon with a test siren sounding continuously for 140 seconds.
