The main aim of the project is to map out the choice of education in relation to the anticipation of chances on the labour market from a gender perspective, as reflected in family decision-making strategies regarding their children's choice of occupation at the completion of compulsory school attendance. The project is conceived as in-depth qualitative empirical research. Its importance lies mainly in relating the segregation of the labour market with the segmentation of the educational system from a sociological gender perspective.
The core of the project is an in-depth qualitative research of the interrelatedness of the labour market and educational structures, with a detailed analysis at a concrete location (in the city of Brno). A precondition of the research itself is a systematic overview of published quantitative research and analyses of the gender segregation of the labour market on the one hand, and the structures of the educational system, on the other. A secondary analysis of relevant quantitative data will follow.
The major outcomes of the research will be monographs and the organization of an international conference "Reproduction and anticipation of gendered structure in education and on the labour market" with the help of which we will inform the academic public, state institutions, work and employment organizations and the public at large about the findings of our research.
