Many patients after severe head injury die due to secondary ischaemic brain damage despite an early operation was performed and they were treated on an intensive care unit according to the principles of maintaining an adequate cerebral perfusion pressur Mild controlled hypothermia is an effective neuroprotective method, which if applied in the first days after the injury should decrease significantly the development of secondary ischaemic changes and should improve the outcome.
