Quantum information processing (QIP) research is currently one of the hottest areas of science. Problems in this area range from deeply philosophical to very challenging experimental and implementation ones. The aim of the project is both to perform a sy nthesis of the current basic problems, methods and results in this area and to pursue specific investigations in several of the fundamental areas of QIP. Namely, in the area of quantum automata, multipartite entanglement, synthesis of quantum objects, un iversal quantum operators (cloners, entanglers), and on generalizations of quantum secret sharing. Both of the goals are closely related and a natural continuation of the previous successful work of the project participants.
