Conducting ourselves appropriately in social contexts and interacting effectively with others relies upon a sophisticated repertoire of cognitive and affective abilities, referred to collectively as social cognition. The latest research indicates that compromised social relationships in clinical populations might be related to disturbances in general cognitive control mechanisms, rather than specialised social processing. Yet, existing socio-cognitive models remain silent in this regard. Complexity of everyday social situations necessitates employment of naturalistic research paradigms that allow for mutually reciprocal interaction that evolves unpredictably and progressively, whilst considering dynamic nature of such interactions at both behavioural and neural levels of analyses. This project will capitalise on the latest methodological advancements to reveal neurocognitive mechanisms of social cognition and interpersonal behaviour to establish “normative” model of social cognition.
