The project aims to contribute to the understanding of renoprotective effect of gliflozins, a new class of antidiabetic drugs. Two approaches are planned: (1) an observational study of T2DM patients who are eligible for gliflozin treatment on top of the current antidiabetic treatment and (2) in vitro analysis of human-derived proximal tubular epithelial cells. Specific molecular pathways studied include dicarbonyl stress and cell death pathways.
