The Czech Resuscitation Council has a new chairwoman. She is Dr. Jana Djakow from the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University.
Dr. Jana Djakow from the Department of Simulation Medicine at Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Paediatric Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Brno is the new chairwoman of the Czech Resuscitation Council. The Committee of the prestigious professional society elected her unanimously at its meeting on Monday. "Her election is a logical outcome of her long-standing activity in the national and international field," said Professor Petr Štourač, head of both departments, praising his colleague.
Jana Djakow is also a long-standing member of the European Resuscitation Council, which last year awarded her the Fellowship of the European Resuscitation Council (FERC) for her long-term contribution to resuscitation medicine as the first woman from the Czech Republic. In the European Resuscitation Council, she is the chair of the Scientific and Educational Committee for Paediatric Life Support and coordinates the development of new European guidelines for resuscitation of children.
"Within the ERC, I try to advocate for and represent a minority but important group of healthcare professionals who are primarily involved with paediatric patients in critical condition and those in and after cardiac arrest," she says, explaining her focus. "Cardiac arrest in childhood is a rare but often devastating event, with paediatric patients generally having worse resuscitation outcomes than adults, which in my opinion requires further efforts to expand education of the public and healthcare professionals, better implementation of recommended practices into practice, as well as new and innovative strategies to further advance the field.“
On 5 March, a lecture on healthy nutrition and plant-based diet was organized by IFMSA CZ Brno in cooperation with experts from PAN Czech Republic. Participants learned about the importance of good nutrition, practical tips for creating a healthy diet and had the opportunity to taste plant-based dishes.
For one day, the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University hosted a fundraiser for the Krtek Foundation, which supports the development of personalized treatment for pediatric patients. The fundraiser, which raised over 8,500 CZK, was organized by general medicine students at our faculty, along with the foundation's mascot. The plush mole managed to briefly visit a physiology lecture while spreading hugs during the event.
