It is not only in the laboratory that scientists from the Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine know how to turn things around. They won't get lost in the kitchen either! Dr. Zdeněk Andrysík, who returned to the Czech Republic after more than fifteen years abroad, and who has been leading his own research group at the Institute of Biology since this year, brought back not only invaluable scientific experience from the United States, but also the famous American excitement for community involvement. He is behind the idea of the Bake for Krtek event, which will take place on the last Friday morning in October.
Together with his scientific colleagues, they have baked cookies, cakes and other goodies that will be sold in the premises of the Campus Square in Brno, with the proceeds from the sale of their charity baking to be donated to the Krtek Children's Oncology Foundation. It is part of the Clinic of Paediatric Oncology at the Medical Faculty of Medical University and the University Hospital Brno and supports children with cancer during and after treatment. Its activities are based on three pillars - 1. personalised treatment and research into the treatment of childhood cancer; 2. improving the quality of life of patients and their families; 3. home care. One of NFDO Krtek's goals for the next few years is to significantly increase investment in advanced specialized diagnostics and precision personalized treatment.
The fundraising event will include an exhibition of patient stories.
