The matriculation of new students, studying in Czech or English, took place at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University on Wednesday the 16th of October 2024. On this day, students in the first year of studies, for whom matriculation is compulsory, came to the Faculty in festive clothes. Many recorded this memorable day by taking photos on the bridge in front of the faculty and at the bust of T. G. Masaryk.
The ceremony was opened with a fanfare that introduced the academic dignitaries accompanied by a pedel. After the arrival of the dignitaries, the national anthem of the Czech Republic was played, followed by the anthem of the European Union from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. At the beginning of the ceremony, all the faculty leaders present were introduced. The ceremony was attended by the Dean, Prof. MUDr. Martin Repko, PhD, and the vice-deans of the faculty: Prof. MUDr. Kateřina Kaňková, PhD (vice-dean for teaching in pre-clinical fields of general medicine and admissions), Prof. MUDr. Lydia Izakovičová Hollá, PhD (vice-dean for dentistry), Assoc. Prof. MUDr. Lubomír Křivan, PhD (Vice-Dean for English Studies and Internationalisation) and Prof. MUDr. Eva Brichtová, PhD (Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and External Relations). At each of the four sessions, two of the officials present welcomed the students.
The vice-dean or vice-dean formally asked for the spectabilis' consent to administer the matriculation oath. The student representative then read the matriculation oath in which the students pledge to fulfil their academic obligations, pursue professional knowledge and skills, and strive to preserve the reputation of Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine through their actions. The students were then asked to come forward in front of the faculty insignia and place their hand on the insignia and the word "Spondeo" to confirm their commitment. After taking the oath, all students were presented with a matriculation certificate. In their speeches, the members of the management stressed the importance of this step in their academic journey and wished the students every success.
The whole ceremony ended with the student song "Gaudeamus igitur" and fanfare accompanied the departure of the dignitaries and students, now official members of the academic community of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University.
