PhD Day MED MUNI: Information for aspiring PhD candidates and those interested in PhD studies 2024
PhD Day at the MU Faculty of Medicine is an annual event that provides first-year PhD candidates and those interested in pursuing a PhD with an overview of study obligations and development opportunities. This year's event, held independently under the Faculty's banner for the first time, offered eight lectures on mobility and scholarships for using artificial intelligence in the life sciences. Thus, the event introduces the rules and requirements of PhD studies and inspires students to further their academic growth.
The PhD Day has been held at Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine every year since 2020. Every year at the beginning of the semester, new PhD candidates, their supervisors and final-year Master's students meet here to get an overview of the opportunities and requirements associated with PhD studies. This year, for the first time, the event was held separately under the banner of the Faculty of Medicine, while in previous years it was organised jointly with other campus faculties and the CEITEC research centre. The Masaryk University Rector's Office organised its event for the faculties two days earlier.
This meeting is intended for first-year PhD candidates and also for those, who are considering applying for PhD studies. Students in the final years of their Master's degree are especially invited, as this may be an opportunity for them to get a glimpse into the world of scientific work and find out more about the conditions of PhD studies. New PhD candidates are also invited with their supervisors to discuss important points about study obligations and development opportunities.
This year's PhD Day has offered eight lectures covering a wide range of topics important for the successful start of PhD candidates. The programme was conducted in English and focused on practical information and inspiring insights into the future of scientific work. The lectures covered the following topics:
- Faculty Regulations for PhD Candidates – an overview of the rules and requirements related to doctoral studies at the Faculty of Medicine.
- Study Duties – Common-core Courses – student responsibilities and information on core courses for doctoral study. There are currently 15 different PhD degree programs available at the MU Faculty of Medicine.
- Internships and Mobility Programmes – opportunities for international internships and involvement in international projects.

The event provided an opportunity to meet and discuss with the speakers and other colleagues who shared their experiences with PhD studies. Thanks to this, the participants were able to form a comprehensive picture of the opportunities and challenges that await them during their PhD studies. So whether you are an aspiring PhD candidate or just thinking about the next step in your academic career, don't miss PhD Day next year!
