Alumni Day is not a new event - dozens of them headed to the Bohunice campus in 2019, on the occasion of the centenary of Masaryk University. However, last year's event represented a post-graduation reboot and the beginning of a new tradition based on linking the alumni meeting with annual graduations. These involved more than fifty arrivals whose diploma was printed exactly fifty years ago. This year, gold graduations will be joined by silver graduations, so in addition to the generation of graduates from the 1970s, those who graduated just before the end of the millennium, in 1999, will receive their annual diploma from the hands of the dean. However, the event is intended for all graduates of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University.

"We want to connect all generations of our graduates. From those who are already retired, to those who are active, to the freshest ones who are just starting their careers. I'm sure that getting to know each other, exchanging experiences and sharing perspectives is attractive in both directions, from the oldest to the youngest and vice versa," says the Head of Communications and External Relations, engineer Marie Krulová. According to her, the conscious effort to attract the younger years is already reflected in the registrations, which show a more balanced ratio of different age groups compared to last year. There is no shortage of those who graduated in the new millennium, but there are also a few real "veterans" among the registrants who remember the faculty from the days before the events of August in the year sixty-eight.

In addition to the annual graduation ceremony, everyone will have a program based on last year's program, modified based on feedback received. "Last year's event brought a lot of classmates who hadn't seen each other in maybe decades, so there was not only a lot of emotion but also a lot of topics to talk about. A single afternoon wouldn't have been enough for them anyway, but we decided to give more space to the participants themselves this time," Krulová said. The programme of this year's Alumni Day will thus still be varied, but also more flexible, with more space just for sharing mutual impressions and memories in the informal atmosphere and environment of the campus library.

Those who want to, will be able to take part in tours of the faculty's workplaces - the simulation centre and the anatomical museum - as last year; there will also be a short lecture by Professor Ladislav Dušek, Director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, presenting the prospects of Czech health care in the coming years, presentations by student associations and the University of the Third Age, and an exhibition on the 105th anniversary of the University of Masaryk in cooperation with the Masaryk University Archives. anniversary, which is celebrated not only by Masaryk University itself, but also by the Faculty of Medicine as one of the founding institutions. There will also be music, which will be followed by live dulcimer music during the afternoon. "Whether you use this opportunity to meet classmates you haven't seen for a long time, to reminisce about teachers and colleagues you haven't heard from for a long time, or just to visit the modern premises of the faculty where new generations of doctors and health professionals are being born #GENERACEMEDMUNI, we look forward to seeing you," Krulová says.
