Allhallowtide is a time of remembrance for all the departed, a time to reflect not only on death. Since 2018, on the initiative of the Department of Anatomy of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, this silent remembrance also belongs to those who decided to donate their bodies for the benefit of science and teaching. On Monday, 4 November, students, teachers, faculty management and members of the public gathered in the ceremonial hall of the Brno cemetery to pay tribute to these donors.
"Anyone who chooses to donate their body has made a decision that requires extraordinary courage, dedication and a vision beyond human life. These donors have enabled us to learn, develop and move closer to a deeper understanding of the human body that is the foundation of our future medical practice. Thanks to them, we can push the boundaries of our knowledge and become better doctors and caregivers every day," said David Neuman, Spolek mediků´s president, which co-organizes the annual event, in his opening remarks.
It includes more than just remembering and thanking the donors and their families who supported them in their decision. Also this year, the a capella group DNA and an opera performance by the head of the Department of Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Petr Babula, accompanied by organist Karel Bezdíček, contributed to the commemorative atmosphere. "It was a beautiful concert, we are very happy to be a regular part of the event and we hope that this beautiful tradition will continue in the years to come," said David Neuman.
