Description Using the rat model of depression, bilateral olfactory bulbectomy, we compared the behavioural effects of classical antidepressants with the effects of amisulpride and felbamate. At the same time we measured the influence of these drugs on the leukocyte phagocytic activity in vitro. The present data confirmed an antidepressant-like effect of amisulpride and felbamate on the behaviour of the bulbectomized rats. The suppressed leukocyte phagocytosis in the bulbectomized rats was normalized after felbamate (240 mg/kg/day orally, 10 days), but not after amisulpride (7 mg/kg/day, 10 days) intraperitoneal administration.
