Description The authors deal with the initial training of pre-school teachers to contribute to the discourse linking theory with practice. The main starting structure publications became the results of researches and evaluation of field of study for pre-school teachers at the Pedagogical Faculty of Masaryk University. It turns out that the fundamental problem is the concept of practical training and its reflection. With the support of the theory of realistic training author outlines and justifies its modification. The central theme therefore becomes mentoring as a phenomenon associated with supporting the development of professional skills.
