| Description | The estimation of age at death is a crucial step for identification of all individuals. The aim of this contribution was to compare various methods of age estimation at the recent and historical material. Altogether it was produced and evaluated 184 sections of teeth and ribs (120 section from the recent material of known age and 64 sections from the historical material), 66 X-rays of femurs and humerus from the historical material and evaluated 42 individuals from the historical material. For the estimation of age at death were performed standard morphological methods, modification of Gustafson method and osteon counting in the rib cortex. It can be concluded that the estimation of age according to histological changes in hard tooth tissues is the most effective method. It can be support also the use of standard morphological methods in their combination. The worst results were established after the age estimation on the basis of evaluation of the rib sections. The results are useful not only for the anthropologists but also for the forensics in the identification of solitary skeletal remains. |
