science into practice
Cell therapy represents one of the most advanced therapeutic approaches today. It brings back to life patients for whom there has been no effective treatment without permanent consequences. Doctors, in cooperation with the team of the Centre for Cell and Tissue Engineering at the ICRC of the MU Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine, use it especially in patients after bone marrow transplantation, but also after organ transplants, to treat viral infections where traditional antiviral treatment fails. The therapy, which costs approximately 800,000 Czech crowns, is now covered by insurance companies.

An interdisciplinary team of authors from the Department of Pediatric Neurology, Department of Psychiatriy, both from the FM MU and University Hospital and the Institute of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts published a study on the possibility of using telemedicine in the evaluation of autism spectrum disorders in children. let´s introduce
Lenka Bešše, head of the Cancer Immunotherapy research group. Dr. Bešše and her team at the Department of Biology, FM MU, focus on the research of protein homeostasis and its role in cancer immunotherapy. They study cellular mechanisms leading to resistance of tumours to immunotherapy and look for ways to overcome this resistance. This research could lead to significant advances in cancer treatment. Her team is also part of the National Cancer Research Institute, the largest ever cancer project in the Czech Republic, linking 11 research institutions and 72 teams. You can hear more about her research and her journey from the labs in Switzerland back to Brno in the interview for our podcast Stestoskop. The NÚVR podcast Mezi Buňky also offers interesting listening.
