Jan Grolich, Governor of the South Moravian Region, awarded the Faculty of Medicine MU for its selfless management of the covid situation. The silver and bronze medals for the Faculty were accepted by Dean Martin Repko and Vice-Dean Štourač. “The award belongs to, above all, the huge commitment of our students and the entire management of the Faculty of Medicine for a perfect management of the difficult situation,” emphasised the Dean of FM MU Martin Repko.

The ceremony took place on Thursday, 26th August 2021 in the premises of the Regional Office. The South Moravian Region awarded a total of 260 medals for help with fighting covid.

“I would like to thank the representatives of the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate, who coordinated the deployment of students, for their work. And especially to all the students, who voluntarily participated in the healthcare assistance in the beginning, and subsequently, within the compulsory deployment, were able to help ensure the operation for the already much-tested healthcare system not only in the faculty hospitals, but in other regional hospitals as well. A big thank you also goes to our lecturers, who ensured teaching during the critical period.” Dean Martin Repko commented in response to the award.

Medals were also accepted by representatives from the Crisis Centre at Masaryk University, healthcare facilities, nominated secondary and higher vocational medical schools, staff from vaccination centres, social services, the Regional Office and parts of the Integrated Rescue System. Mayors, secretaries of emergency committees and emergency line operators received thank you certificates.

“It is you, who have experienced the worst. Many of you hit the rock bottom. It certainly didn’t occur to you, that we would ever get into such a bizarre situation when we would talk about transporting patients to the exhibition centre. However, thanks to your work, it turned out it was not needed in the end. I would really like to thank you very much for managing it the way you did,” told Jan Grolich, Governor of the South Moravian Region to the medical staff during the ceremony.

By awarding the medals, the Governor wanted to pay tribute and thank to all of those, who actively participated in the fight against the pandemic of COVID-19, which severely affected people’s lives and the functioning of the healthcare system. Every helping hand was needed. Students, firefighters and policemen helped in hospitals and social services, and they also supervised compliance with anti-epidemic measures. Many of them were also at hand to hygienists when tracing the infected patients and their contacts.
