Interview: Palliative medicine is about life, but it also introduces medical students to dying
Interview with Associate Professor Jan Maláska about the expansion and importance of teaching palliative care.
The appointment decrees for the new professors were personally handed over by President Petr Pavel today in the Grand Hall of the Karolina in Prague. He appointed a total of 93 professors, including two women professors and six professors on the basis of a proposal by the MU Scientific Board.
"The awarding of the professorship is a recognition of the abilities of those who have gone furthest on the path of science and higher education. I believe that each of you will contribute to making Czech universities a place of opportunity where young and talented people can develop their abilities," said Petr Pavel in his opening speech at the ceremony of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.
The procedure for the appointment of a professor can take place at a university that has an accredited doctoral study programme in which the field of the appointment or at least a substantial part of it is taught. At the same time, it is necessary that the higher education institution or a part of it has a valid accreditation for holding the procedure for the appointment of a professor. Of the new professors who have successfully passed the appointment procedure at Masaryk University, five are working directly at MU. Three other new MU professors were appointed by the President on the basis of a proposal by the Scientific Board of Charles University. Masaryk University thus has eight new professors, three of them from the Faculty of Medicine.
