Miroslav Světlák and Leoš Křen Became the Most Popular Teachers in 2022
In this year's election of the Academician of the Year in the eyes of students in the clinical part of teaching, the title of the most popular teacher was awarded to Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Miroslav Světlák, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Medical Psychology and Psychosomatics, and the title from the preclinical part of teaching went to Assoc. Prof. MUDr. Leoš Křen, Ph.D., who is the head of the Department of Pathology at the University Hospital Brno and the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University in Brno.
Every year, the FM MU Medical Students' Association organizes the FM MU Representative Ball and collects nominations for the Academician of the Year in the eyes of students. After their approval for inclusion in the elections, the nominated teachers have the opportunity to receive the awards in the category of the preclinical part of studies and in the category for the clinical part of their studies at the ball.
This year the category for the clinical part of the study was won by Assoc. Prof. PhDr. Miroslav Světlák, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Medical Psychology and Psychosomatics. The students show that they value not only the teaching itself but also the extra-curricular activities of the whole department and that psychology is very meaningful among medical students. Kristián Kalianko, vice-president of the Medical Students' Association of FM MU and the organiser of the ball and the elections, highlights the personality of Associate Professor Světlák himself. I have personally experienced Assoc. Prof. Světlák in teaching and I completely understand the selection of the students and I think it is truly well deserved."
Assoc. Prof. Světlák, who was is very pleased by the award, commented, "I can't imagine a better feedback for the teachers than an award from the students. I am touched and grateful. I realize that this is feedback that is not only about my style and way of teaching and approach to students, but it is also a message about the whole of Medical Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine. It is a confirmation for me that Medical Psychology has a place in the path of future doctors, that students are interested in it, and that they give it their precious attention. Such an award is also a commitment for me, and my colleagues, to maintain a standard of teaching that will be practically beneficial and meaningful to students."
Assoc. Prof. Leoš Křen, M.D., Ph.D., Head of the Department of Pathology, received the award for the preclinical part of studies for the third time and also commented on the award "I am pleased that the students are satisfied with the teaching of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine and they have been showing it for the third year, it is a sign for us that the whole team and we are doing our job to the best of our ability. My colleagues and I will do everything we can to continue our quality work and ideally improve further." The students are thus interested in Pathology itself thanks to the personality of Assoc. Prof. Křen's personality, which makes it interesting and fun. His lectures are motivating, attractive, and beneficial for the students.
The students presented the award to both winners privately, as they were unable to attend the Representation Ball in person.
