The assembly of the academic community of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University on the occasion of the presentation of the candidate for the post of Dean for the years 2023-2027 was opened by the President of the Academic Senate doc. RNDr. Josef Tomandl, Ph.D. He stated that the Election Committee received only one application, namely from the current Dean, Prof. Martin Repko, M.D., Ph.D.
MUDr. Tomáš Vojtíšek, Chairman of the Election Commission, summarized the course of the election and presented the composition of the Election Commission, which was elected by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Medicine at the same time as the announcement of the election of the candidate for the position of Dean in March this year.
The candidate for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine is the current Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Martin Repko, M.D., Ph.D., who presented four points of his programme statement. These are the major milestones and achievements in 2019-2023, professional activities and personal achievements in 2019-2023, a look back at the programme statement in 2019, and the strategic priorities of FM MU for the period 2023-2027, building on the existing activities in accordance with the set strategic plan.
"I am convinced that despite the difficult situations we faced during the critical epidemiological situation and subsequently the current challenging economic and energy situation, our Faculty of Medicine has stood up to all these challenges and is thriving in all its roles, both educational, scientific and research activities, as well as being an important and unmissable institution with a strong social role. I consider last year's election as the chairman of the Association of Deans of Medical Faculties of the Czech Republic to be an appreciation not only of my personal importance, but also of the importance of our entire faculty in the context of other educators at the national level," said Martin Repko, adding that he is running for a second term of office with the awareness of his responsibility to ensure full continuity of activities and further development of the faculty. "I would also like to thank all my closest colleagues in the faculty management, as well as all academic and non-academic staff for their constructive and creative cooperation in the past period," said Dean Martin Repko at the end of his speech.
Then Tomáš Vojtíšek asked the Rector Martin Bareš to take the floor and thanked him for presenting the past events, summarizing the current events and outlining his vision for the future. "If the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Medicine agrees and elects Professor Repko, I will not hesitate to appoint him as Dean," said Bareš.
At the end, the floor was opened for questions from all members of the academic community. Prof. Repko answered two questions asked at the discussion forum, and no others were raised from the audience. Tomáš Vojtíšek thanked the attendees for their participation, their support for the candidate and any questions in the discussion. He also invited the entire academic community to the AS FM MU meeting on 23 May 2023 at 14:00, when the election of the candidate for the position of Dean will take place in the auditorium B22/116.
