The Association of Students of Dentistry of the Czech Republic (SSSČR) as a volunteer non-profit organization organized this awareness campaign for the 16th time. During the whole day, 49 volunteers from among the dental students at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University took part in the event.
The main goal of the event was to reach the general public in order to spread awareness about oral health, hygiene and diseases associated with it. A central tent was set up in the square, where one could practice the technique of cleaning with a single-bristle toothbrush, calibrate interdental spaces, or test mouthwash. Our enthusiastic students rushed among the Brno public and talked to passers-by about dental prevention and proper brushing technique.
Miraculously, the weather turned out to be beautiful and sunny, so there was no shortage of people in the square. According to approximate statistics, around 1000 citizens of different age groups were reached. The largest group addressed were middle-aged people, seniors, and of course families with children, or here and there a kindergarten on a walk. An unusually large group of people were English-speaking foreigners who were very interested in our efforts to spread dental prevention.
"We hope that our efforts were successful and helped spread proper dental hygiene principles. The event would not have taken place without the support of sponsors Listerine and Curaprox, who provided us with samples of their products. Help was also provided by our beloved medical faculty MUNI MED, which we were happy to represent," says Marek Jalovecký, the event organizer for the Brno team of SSSCR members. He adds: "After a strong year last year, we managed to organize this lovely event in a similar way and we hope to follow a similarly successful pattern in the years to come. We look forward to seeing you next year!"
