The historically first accredited course on Simulation of Critical Conditions in the Czech Republic took place at SIMU LF MU
The long-awaited accredited course on Simulation of Critical Conditions was waiting for a workplace which would accept the challenge and decide to organize this mandatory course within the specialized educations of physicians involved in the latest educational program in the field of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. Our faculty was the first to take on the challenge. A two-day course full of high-fidelity simulations was prepared by a team of lecturers from KDAR FN Brno and LF MU and KARIM FN Brno and LF MU.
Being the first to organize such a comprehensive course was a real challenge for the entire team of the Simulation Center of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. Due to the current absence of systematic simulation education in our field there was a concern about what would be the expectations and commitment of the very first physicians in the specialized preparation for the course. The advantage, which we tried to use during the course preparation, was the opportunity for us to locate the simulations into the environment of operating rooms, intensive care units, including the modern technical background of the new SIMU LF MU. The very possibility of using a realistic environment of SIMU LF MU and high-fidelity simulators has increased the expectations of course participants and thus the demands on the organizers and lecturers themselves. On March 8-9 and March 11-12, 2021, the first two courses were organized in compliance with the currently valid hygienic and epidemiological measures. The courses were attended by 27 participants from all corners of the Czech Republic across all types of medical facilities. Each physician actively participated in at least six simulations, was a team leader two or three times in the given situation and could online monitor all other critical conditions and their management in the debriefing room. The degree of involvement of all participants in individual simulations, as well as in the subsequent analysis of situations, the so-called debriefing, was enormous. Thanks to the active approach of the first participants and lecturers, we managed to organize the first two courses in a very high quality, for which we hereby give a huge thanks to all the colleagues involved.
According to the evaluation of the course, we managed not only to meet the expectations of our younger colleagues, and what's more, we managed to motivate them to further education, even through other simulation courses beyond their obligations. The success of the first course on Simulation of Critical Conditions is a commitment for us not only to continue organizing courses in specialized training, but also a challenge to think about deepening the education of colleagues who already acquired specialized skills and organize simulation courses that would be available to all colleagues in the field of AIM, including non-medical healthcare professionals.
