SIMU lecturers at the EPALS course
The European Resuscitation Council gave a certified EPALS course which took place on 18th – 20th September 2020 in Hotel Tereziansky dvur in Hradec Kralove. The course was attended by doctors and nurses from Brno University Hospital and Medical Faculty of Masaryk University, as well as lecturers from the Simulation Center.
The EPALS course is held by the Czech Resuscitation Council and is intended for all healthcare professionals who may encounter in their clinical practice some pediatric patients requiring urgent resuscitation or critical care. During the course, our doctors became acquainted with details of globally recognized best practices in the care of such children patients, both via theoretical lectures and simulations. It is the simulations for practicing practical skills, crisis management and teamwork that our doctors regard as a key. "All simulations were focused on critical conditions that we commonly meet in our practice. The EPALS course is great because after the end of each simulation there is a so-called debriefing, during which we can consult our procedures with a group of experienced instructors. This provides us with valuable advice for our practice." says Roman Kula, doctor of the Clinic of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Resuscitation (KDAR), which sent three doctors and two nurses to attend the course this time. There were also two doctors from the Pediatric Clinic who successfully completed the course. Roman Štoudek, vice-head for education at the Department of Paediatric Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, and Petr Jabanžiev, head of the Department of Pediatrics, achieved a great success - besides successful completion of the course, they were selected to become potential instructors. The possibility to become part of the instructor team is only offered to high-quality course graduates who are then allowed to complete a certified General Instructor Course and thus participate in lecturing future EPALS courses.
