Another in a Series of New Courses for Non-Medical Health Professionals by SIMU
On Monday, 7 November 2022, SIMU held the first from brand new series of courses on Acute Conditions in Paediatric Anaesthesia for Nurse Anaesthetists.
It was for the eight participants of the course, who came from different parts of the Czech and Slovak Republics, that we, together with lecturers Tereza Kolářová and MUDr. Roman Kula, prepared a busy programme. Six simulations situated in the operating theatre were complemented by two simulations from the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) and three workshops. Participants experienced anaesthetic care of paediatric patients of different ages (from toddler to adolescent) in a safe environment. Each situation required the nurse anaesthetist to be able to identify a change in the patient's condition, respond appropriately, and communicate with the anaesthetist and the whole operating team. The subsequent debriefing provided an opportunity to analyse the situation, clarify the strategy chosen by the participant, and to compare this approach with real practice, the opinions of others and the algorithms of specific situations. Practical skills could be practiced during workshops focused on ventilating a patient with a face mask using the " two-hand bag-valve mask ventilation” technique, safe defibrillation and providing intraosseous access.
Many thanks for a pleasant day to all the participants for their maximum commitment, as well as to the lecturers and the team of technicians for the preparation of the course and its smooth running.
