Fifteen Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine doctors came from all over the country to Brno for the course, which was accompanied by experienced lecturers from FM MU: MUDr. Markéta Nowaková, MUDr. Bořek Trávníček, Prof. MUDr. Petr Štourač, Ph.D., doc. MUDr. Martina Kosinová Ph.D., MUDr. Martina Klincová, MUDr. Václav Vafek, and MUDr. Roman Štoudek. An indispensable part of the team also comprises a large number of technicians.

After two introductory lectures, the participants got acquainted with the environment and equipment of the emergency room and operating theatres. Throughout the day, participants went through 12 simulations. Half of the simulations took place in the operating room environment, where participants had to deal with complications within the perioperative process in a paediatric patient. The other half took place in the emergency room. Each simulation was followed by a structured debriefing. The simulations allowed the participants to clarify the correct procedures for dealing with critical situations, and to improve non-technical skills such as team communication.

As always, the end of the demanding course belonged to a joint meeting of participants, lecturers and course sponsors. For the organizers, this part is indispensable, as the participants can directly communicate their impressions and discuss the course concept.

The SIMU team is planning the next Critical Conditions in Children course for this autumn.

For those interested in simulations from the paediatric environment, we are preparing two more courses:

  1. Basic School of Ultrasound in Children course
  2. Management of Critical Conditions in Paediatrics
