1st Course Acute Conditions in the standard ward and in the adult outpatient clinic for NMHWs
On 26 October 2022, the first course for nurses focused on acute situations in the standard ward and ambulance environment took place at the FM MU Simulation Centre.
The third course for non-medical healthcare professionals created a safe environment for participants to experience caring for a critically ill patient without having to worry about the consequences of any mistakes.
The one-day course was attended by 12 participants from the Brno-Bohunice Hospital, who were full of anticipation but also fear of the unknown…
After the introductory lecture and introduction of the lecturers Mgr. Honza Dvořáček, Bc. Petra Kratochvilová, Klára Gebauerová, the technicians and the course participants themselves, the necessary familiarisation with the simulated environment and equipment of the standard ward, ambulance and waiting room took place. During the course, the participants had to deal with eight acute conditions in simulations with a high degree of fidelity. Each simulation was followed by a debriefing session, which allowed participants to clarify the correct course of action in a given situation or to improve non-technical skills (e.g. communication within a team). Technical skills were then learned during workshops focused on critically ill recognition, bimanual ventilation and safe defibrillation.
The commitment of each of the participants was tremendous and we believe that they will be happy to spread the idea of simulation medicine further. Finally, there was a sincere thank you and a request for a regular course from the participants.
