11th Emergency Medicine Course at SIMU

At the opening ceremony, moderated by Dr. Roman Kula, was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine MU prof. Repko, KDAR and ÚSM Department Head Prof. Štourač, Dr. Dadák on behalf of ARK FN USA, Dr. Hudec on behalf of KARIM FN Brno, Dr. Richtrová as a recent holder of the Golden Lifesaving Cross and a doctor of the Ambulance Service JmK and KDAR FN Brno, member of the management of AKUTNE.CZ Dr. Harazim, SR NF AKUTNE.CZ member Dr. Smékalová, and Dr. Klincová as a chairwoman of the Section of Young Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of CSARIM and CSIM. All of them recalled the previous years of the course, which many of them attended as students, they also highlighted the importance of simulations in medicine, recalled the 15^th birthday of AKUTNE.CZ portal and Dr. Richtrová added the story of the intervention for which she and her crew were awarded.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, lecturers from all anaesthesiology and resuscitation departments of FM MU and course participants went to their stations located around the modern building of the FM MU Simulation Centre. The course was thematically divided into two large logically related blocks, where the morning one was devoted to the basic approach to the critically ill patient from the perspective of the European Resuscitation Council recommendations. Participants went through everything from the basics of lay first aid to dealing with pneumothorax. After the lunch break, the session followed with providing immediate assistance in a specific environment and using advanced procedures and equipment. The stations dedicated to the ambulance, extrication from the vehicle and the use of fixation devices were under the responsibility of doctors and paramedics of the Ambulance Service of the South Moravian Region. The delivery was supervised by doctors of the gynaecological and obstetric department. Dr. Šafářová, a physician of the Department of Dentistry of the Brno University Hospital, lectured on sudden conditions in the dentist's outpatient clinic, while Dr. Truksová took charge of the situation in the emergency room. A very specific environment was the toilet of the Simulation Centre, where the correct procedure according to the ALS principles was guided by Dr. Dadák from ARK FN USA.

All the participants were winners of the day, because no one will ever be able to take away their knowledge, skills and experiences. However, the team of Romana Opatřilová, Miroslava Vytlačilová and Jiří Klinkovský won the traditional competition for the Jiří Korbička Award, which is dedicated to the memory of our precious and tragically deceased colleague associated with the Emergency Medicine Course. This year, the competition station was dedicated to choking and was evaluated for the first time by means of Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE). The differences between the performances of the three teams were insignificant and therefore OSCE was a necessary and useful tool for us.

Thanks to all the organizers from the students and doctors of AKUTNE.CZ portal and all the lecturers who created a stimulating environment suitable for education. Without their help and dedication, it would have been impossible to organize a course of this quality.
