Description Non-aqueous electrophoresis (NACE) was found to be a good alternative for the analysis of pharmaceutical drugs. In our work we have targeted the separation of dextromethorphan (DEX) and its metabolites. DEX is primarily used as an over-counter antitusive drug for temporary relief of cough. Our study has been focused on the influence of non-aqueous BGEs on the separation of DEX and its metabolites. Three organic solvents of different characteristics have been chosen for BGEs containing ammonium acetate; namely methanol, acetonitrile and 2-propanol. Separations of the object analytes with the addition of levallorphan (internal standard) were performed in a 75 um I.D. fused-silica capillary, 48.5/40 cm Ltot/Leff, respectively. The evaluation was based on the resolution of all analytes, the efficiency of levallorphan separation, electroosmotic mobility and the total analysis time.
