Each day, eight AIM physicians from various departments across the Czech Republic participated in the course, which was lectured by the professionals from the FM MU, namely MUDr. Markéta Nowaková, MUDr. Bořek Trávníček, MUDr. Václav Vafek, doc. MUDr. Jozef Klučka, Ph.D, MUDr. Roman Štoudek, with the support from an extensive team of technicians.

There was almost no time to sit during the course. After two short introductory lectures, introductions and familiarisation with the environment and equipment of the venue, the participants spent the morning session focusing on critical conditions in children during anaesthesia and dealing with their management. Overall, they faced six potential emergency conditions quite common in the perioperative period. Each scenario was then discussed in more detail during the debriefing. In the afternoon, the course left the operating theatres to the Emergency Department and outdoors, where six paediatric emergency scenarios from a newborn to an adolescent awaited the participants. Once again, the debriefings focused on the specifics of managing critically ill or injured children.

The demanding and time-consuming event culminated in a meeting of the lecturers and participants. The latter could share their feelings and evaluate the day, thus providing the organisers and lecturers with invaluable feedback. Besides a lot of new experiences, the participants also obtained a certificate of completion.

We believe that the paediatrics-focused courses, which we are planning for the next year, will attract and bring participants joy and greater confidence in the management of critical conditions in children.
