Popis The determined effort of athletes to achieve a perfect sport performance is one of the key qualities required to be successful. However, the effect of perfectionism in sports can be both positive and negative. One of the generally discussed negative effect of perfectionism is burnout, which draws considerable attention both from sport practitioners and scientific community in sport psychology. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between perfectionism (Sport Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale - 2) and burnout (Athlete Burnout Measure). The sample of the study consisted of 240 students (50.4% males) of dedicated sports high school in the age range 14 - 19 years. Using linear regression analysis, it was found that dimensions of perfectionism significantly contribute to the prediction of burnout (27% of explained variance in burnout while controlling demographic characteristics). When looking into particular dimensions of burnout, it was revealed that in case of emotional/physical exhaustion the most significant predictor was perceived coach pressure, in case of devaluation it was personal standards (in negative direction), and in case of Reduced sense of accomplishment, the most significant predictor was doubts about actions.
